Fuzz

B.G. Fuzz
$100

Picture
Picture
You may not have heard of the Roland AF-60 Bee Gee pedal before, but you should know it. It's an awesome fuzz. Nice and wooly, long sustain, incredibly articulate, with just a little gate on the pick attack and the perfect amount of nasty. No fuzz knob either. Just use your guitar's volume to control the amount of fuzz. This is what fuzz should sound like, and we've recreated it with the B.G. Fuzz. We even located an NOS stockpile of the exact same Toshiba TA7504M metal can op amps and 2SC1000 transistors to make sure the B.G. Fuzz kit has every bit as much mojo as the original.

Classic Fuzz
$85 - $90 painted

The BYOC Classic Fuzz is a Silicon transistor fuzz based on the venerable Fuzz Face. The addition of the BIAS knob and FULL/THIN/FAT switch make it incredibly versatile. The BIAS knob lets you dial in smooth sustaining fuzz, harsh velcro fuzz, or gated video game-like fuzz. The FULL/THIN/FAT switch lets you choose between the bottom heavy, booming sounds of a vintage 60's fuzz, a nice full fuzz with tighter lows, or a thin raspy fuzz of the late 70's. All jacks are located on the top. 9V battery or standard 9VDC negative tip power. True bypass.

E.S.V. 2 knob Bender

The BYOC Color Booster is based on the much loved Colorsound Overdriver (use 18v to turn it into a Power Booster). BC109 transistors, bass and treble control, and high quality 1% metal film resistors provide enough raw power to please just about any high-gain player. Roll back the volume on your guitar and hear it clean up and give your signal some increased sustain and just enough sparkle to cut through your mix. All jacks are located on the top. 9V battery, 9VDC or 18VDC negative tip power. True bypass.

The BYOC E.S.V. 2-Knob Bender is quite possibly the sweetest MKII Professional Tonebender clone you can get. What makes the BYOC E.S.V. 2-Knob Bender so "extra special"? We started with a redesign of our PCB so that it would fit the larger axial leaded capacitors and carbon comp resistors and made the layout look nice and pretty. We wanted the E.S.V. series to be aesthetically appealing on the inside (the outside is up to you!). We also made the solder pads and traces as beefy as possible. Thicker traces mean better signal flow. It also makes the PCB virtually indestructible and makes soldering a breeze. The next thing that makes the BYOC E.S.V. 2-Knob Bender special is the component selection. We used the highest quality and coolest looking vintage mojo parts we could muster up - carbon comp resistors, shiny blue Vishay aluminum electrolytics, and axial leaded film capacitors. But the heart and soul of any Tonebender is its transistors. The BYOC E.S.V. 2-Knob Bender kit comes with a set of N.O.S. Philips OC76 germanium transistors that have been tested for leakage and gain selected to produce the best tone.

E.S.V. Fuzz (Germanium)

Do we really need to describe what the Fuzz Face does or tell you why you want one? Every guitarist, regardless of their playing style or preferred genre, needs one. With carbon comp resistors, those axial leaded Vishay electrolytic caps, and that big flat yellow film cap, the BYOC E.S.V. (Extra Special Vintage) Fuzz kit has as much vintage mojo as the original, but with the modern conveniences of an LED status light, DC adapter jack, adjustable bias, and true bypass. That's why we call it Extra Special Vintage. The BYOC E.S.V. Fuzz (Germanium Version) kit comes with a pair of hand selected NOS AC128 Germanium transistors.

Leeds Fuzz
$110

Picture

Named after the legendary Live at Leeds recording, the BYOC Leeds Fuzz is a faithful recreation of the Univox Superfuzz, but without the big funky box. If you've ever played a Superfuzz, then you know that Pete didn't come up with the idea of doing windmills.....the pedal made him do it. The expander knob can take this fuzz from raspy grind to over the top, with tasty octave overtones unlike any other octave fuzz. The two position tone switch goes from tight scooped out mids to flat EQ with a wide open feel. It's almost like having two completely different pedals in one box. This is the more sought after version of the circuit that has a trimpot to adjust the octave amp. The kit comes with higher quality components than were used in the originals like 1% metal film resistors and 5% box metal film capacitors, so it's a little less noisy, but still has N.O.S. Panasonic 2SC828 transistors and germanium diodes to ensure that it has the authentic vintage mojo to get you that sound.

An exact replica of the NYC era version of the legendary Big Muff Pi. Comes with 2N5088 transistors. Metal film resistors and metallized polyester film capacitors deliver spot on vintage tone, but with much much less noise than the original and only a fraction of the original size. Despite its small size, the Li'l Beaver uses all through-hole components and panel mounted hardware. True bypass.

Li'l Black Key
$79 - $84 painted

Picture
This mini pedal is an op amp-based fuzz inspired by the Maestro MFZ-1. Its sharp pick attack makes it unique among most other fuzzes that are typically very compressed. This quality also makes it well suited for bass guitar. The Li'l Black Key is true bypass and features all through-hole components and panel mounted hardware.

Li'l Fuzz
$75 - $80 painted

Picture
A clone of the legendary late-60's Fuzz Face, only much, much smaller. Features all through-hole components, including NOS BC108 transistors, and full-sized, panel mounted hardware.

Octave Fuzz
$95

This pedal will forever be associated with Jimi Hendrix. And rightly so. But it's more than just a novelty item to be used only when doing your rendition of Purple Haze. This is a very cool fuzz. If you're looking for that nasty, over the top, complete sonic annihilation that only a thick fuzz can provide, then this might be what you're looking for. The BYOC Octave Fuzz also features an octave lift switch which removes the octave and just leaves you with pure fuzz.

Scrambled Octave
$105

In addition to being an extremely rare and expensive vintage effect, the Ampeg Scrambler is also an extremely cool octave up fuzz. The actual fuzz itself is very unique. Like most octave fuzzes, it's a very rude, nasty, ripping-velcro sort of fuzz. But unlike most other octave fuzzes, it's not overly saturated or gated. It's surprisingly open, articulate, and responsive to pick attack. And the actual octave up part of its sound is very thick. The knobs on the Ampeg Scrambler were quite unique as well. It doesn't have a volume or fuzz knob! The texture knob allows you to dial in the amount of octave so that you can go from no octave at all, to just a subtle hint of octave, to full on mangled chords and squealing single notes. The Blend knob is just that - it allows you to blend the octave fuzz with your clean guitar signal. You can go from completely fuzzed out, to completely clean, and anything in between. All of these attributes make the Ampeg Scrambler a truly unique and extremely versatile octave fuzz. The BYOC Scrambled Octave is an exact replica of the original Ampeg Scrambler circuit. The BYOC Scrambled Octave comes with a 2N3904 transistor, 2N5306 Darlington transistors, and 1N456 diodes. We used all 1% metal film resistors. This pedal actually reduces hum noise when you turn it on! And there is absolutely no volume drop. Some people have complained that the reissues and clones weren't loud enough, but there is no volume drop with the BYOC Scrambled Octave. It must not be an issue when you use the correct components. The only difference between the BYOC Scrambled Octave and the original Ampeg Scramble is that the BYOC has true mechanical bypass with a status LED and a standard 9VDC adapter jack.
