Q.) What are the power requirements for my pedal?
A.) : All pedals require 9 volts DC (direct current) from a 9VDC Power Supply with a 2.1 mm centre negative barrel jack. Any standard power supply for guitar pedals such as the Dunlop Crybaby or the Boss Compact series like the DS-1 Distortion will work and are available at most music stores. Most pedals Built by Abel can also be powered via a 9V Battery (except the Analog Delay, Soaring Skillet, Divided Octave, Stereo Flanger, Amp Selector & Stereo FX Router and the Micro Series). Pedals with battery power available are wired so that when a battery is in the pedal and a power supply is plugged in, the battery is bypassed so it does not get drained. (Note: it is not a good idea to leave a battery in the pedal for a long time unattended because they could leak and damage the circuit) If you use a battery to power your pedal, unplug the “IN” jack when not in use to conserve battery life.

Q.) What about those pedals with positive ground?
A.) The ESV Fuzz Germanium version and the ESV 2 Knob Bender are both have positive ground. No special power supply is necessary, they can both be powered by the same standard power supplies as all the other BYOC pedals and 9v battery. Do not power the ESV Fuzz germanium version and the ESV 2 Knob Bender using a daisy chained power supply such as the Visual Sound One Spot and the Godlyke Powerall, they will short out with the negative ground pedals on the daisy chain. If you are using a professional multi pedal power supply such as the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, make certain that the ground of each output of the power supply is isolated from the other outputs before using them to power your positive ground pedals.

Q.) Why are prices in USD (United States dollars)?
A.) When I started building and selling pedals the Canadian and US currencies were about par in value and so I simply sold in Canadian dollars. Unfortunately, with the change in the relative value of Canadian and US dollars my costs increased greatly. Most of the materials used for building the pedals come from the US and so offering my pedals in US dollars allows me to cover all my costs at all times. As always contact us with your order and prices will be confirmed before sales are finalized.

Q.) How much does shipping cost?
A.) That all depends on where you need your pedal shipped. In general, shipping to well populated areas within Canada and the United States is about $15 - $20, and bit more for rural areas. Larger, heavier pedals such as the Wah and Super 8 will cost more to ship. Please contact us with your full shipping address for a quote.

Q.) What sort of guarantee do you offer?
A.) Your pedal is guaranteed to be properly built with quality components and tested to be free of defect. That being said your pedal is not guaranteed if damaged through misuse, accidental or otherwise. Built By Abel reserves the right to determine what constitutes misuse of the pedal including powering pedals with unapproved power sources. Only the footswitches are to be stepped on, do not use your foot to turn dials or throw toggles. If you should have any issue with your pedal do not hesitate to contact BuiltByAbel@live.com for support.

Q.) Will my Pedal make me sound exactly like my favorite guitar hero?
A.) I cannot guarantee that if you buy a pedal cloned from a circuit used in famous recordings that you will sound exactly like said recording or miraculously be able to play as good as your guitar hero. (If you use them exactly the same way they did, through the same amps, with the same guitars, pickups, strings, and play with the same technique you can get pretty close though).

Q.) What is the difference between the Germanium and Silicon versions of the ESV Fuzz?
A.) The ESV Fuzz is based on the famous Fuzz Face pedals. Over the years the fuzz face name has gone through many companies and variations. The Germanium version harkens back to the original Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face and uses AC128 germanium transistors that have a slightly darker, warmer, woollier tone that cleans up with the volume control of your guitar better than the silicon versions. The Silicon version is a clone of the Crest Audio Fuzz Face that uses high gain BC109C transistors and has more gain, more fuzz and more treble than the germanium version. The silicon transistor's gain also does not fluctuate with temperature the way the germanium transistor's gain is notorious for.

Q.) Do you build any delay loopers, like the Boss Loop Station?
A.) No.
A.) No.
Q.) Why don't you paint all the pedals?
A.) We don't paint all the pedals for a few reasons. First of all it helps keep the price down so the customer can get awesome hand built boutique quality tone for an incredibly low price. Second, it just plain saves time so I can concentrate on building more pedals. Third, many customers really love the 'industrial' type vibe they get from the plain aluminum enclosure, a little mystery on their pedal board. Finally, it makes every paint job unique to the customer and we believe this adds to the customer's personal connection to the pedal, everybody likes to have a one of a kind.

Q.) Do you build pedals other than BYOC kits?
A.) At present no I do not. Having sampled from the other DIY pedal products available I have found BYOC to be far and away the best in quality and tone.

Q.) Do any of the pedals you build do octave effects like the EHX POG?
A.) No. The EHX POG and other modern effects like it are polyphonic and can track many notes at the same time, thus they work with chords and can give you a very cool organ like sounds. At present all the octave effects offered by BYOC are based on vintage circuits and are monophonic, only can track one note at a time. Still very cool and sound great but completely different type of effect.
